## About the AMS Scholarship for Underserved Communities The American Meteorological Society (AMS) Scholarship for Underserved Communities supports students from groups historically underrepresented in the atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences. The scholarship is designed to diversify the pipeline of scientists who will tackle future climate and environmental challenges. ### Award Details - **Amount**: $6,000 total ($3,000 per year for 2 years, or $6,000 for the first year) - **Application Deadline**: February annually - **Application**: Through ametsoc.org/index.cfm/scholarships/ ### Eligibility Requirements - Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university in the U.S. - From an underrepresented minority group in atmospheric/oceanic sciences (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or other underrepresented groups) - Planning to pursue a career in atmospheric, oceanic, hydrological, or related sciences - Minimum 3.25 GPA - Demonstrate financial need - U.S. citizen or permanent resident ### Fields of Study Students can be pursuing any major, but must demonstrate interest in a career in: - Meteorology / Weather forecasting - Climatology / Climate science - Oceanography - Hydrology / Water science - Environmental science ### Selection Criteria Applications are reviewed by AMS committees with expertise in atmospheric sciences. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, and commitment to pursuing a career in the environmental sciences.
