Baltic Way Mathematics Competition

The **Baltic Way** is an annual international team mathematics competition originally founded by countries surrounding the Baltic Sea to commemorate the 1989 Baltic Way human chain for independence. It is a proof-based contest where each participating country sends a team of five high school students to solve 20 challenging problems in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory over a 4.5–5 hour session. Participation is by **national selection only**: students qualify through their own country’s mathematics olympiad system or national training camps, rather than applying individually to the Baltic Way organizers. The competition emphasizes collaboration, as the team works jointly on a single set of problems, developing rigorous written solutions. For strong high school problem-solvers aiming at higher-level math contests (like IMO) and considering future math or STEM studies, Baltic Way offers intensive practice in deep problem solving, teamwork, and mathematical communication in an international setting.
