Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO)

The Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) is a national, proof-based mathematics competition organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society for top high school students in Canada. Held annually, the CMO features challenging problems in areas such as algebra, number theory, combinatorics, and geometry, and is designed to test deep problem-solving ability and mathematical creativity rather than routine calculation. Participation is by invitation only, typically based on strong performance in earlier contests such as the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) and the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad Qualifying Repêchage. The CMO plays a central role in selecting and training students who may represent Canada at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Students who participate gain experience with advanced mathematics, develop rigorous proof-writing skills, and strengthen their applications for competitive university programs in math, science, and engineering.
