Delco Hi-Q Academic Quiz Competition

Delco Hi-Q is a long-running interscholastic academic quiz competition for high schools in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Founded in the 1940s and often cited as the nation’s oldest continuous academic quiz competition, it brings together teams of students who answer challenging questions across subjects such as math, science, literature, history, current events, and more. Matches are held during the school year, with a regular season, playoffs, and a championship. The competition is organized by the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU), and participating schools form official Hi-Q teams that typically meet regularly to study and practice. Students in grades 9–12 can usually participate through their school’s team, gaining experience in quick recall, collaboration under pressure, and broad academic knowledge. Delco Hi-Q helps students develop confidence, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while representing their schools in a structured and well-recognized academic contest.
