Genomics Research Internship Program (GRIP)

The Genomics Research Internship Program (GRIP) is a paid summer research experience hosted by the Stanford University Department of Genetics for local high school students who are historically underrepresented in biomedical and health sciences. Over several weeks, participants are matched with research mentors in Stanford genetics and genomics labs and gain first‑hand exposure to academic research, lab culture, and careers in science. Students typically work on an ongoing lab project under supervision, learning basic molecular biology and genomics techniques, data analysis, and how to present scientific work. The program also offers professional development workshops, college and career guidance, and opportunities to interact with faculty, graduate students, and postdocs. GRIP is aimed at rising juniors and seniors from nearby schools; participants receive a stipend, making it accessible to students who might not otherwise be able to participate in unpaid summer research.
