Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (HKMO)

The Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (HKMO) is a long‑running, territory‑wide mathematics competition for secondary schools in Hong Kong, jointly organized by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. Schools send teams of students to compete in written and relay-style rounds that emphasize creative problem solving, speed, and teamwork. The competition is typically open to Hong Kong secondary schools (roughly equivalent to grades 7–12/Forms 1–6), and selection of individual participants is handled by each school. HKMO problems cover non-routine mathematics topics appropriate for secondary level and are designed to deepen students’ interest in math, enhance logical reasoning, and foster collaboration.
