Indonesia National Science Olympiad (OSN)

The **Indonesia National Science Olympiad (Olimpiade Sains Nasional – OSN)** is the official national-level science competition organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia. It covers multiple subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, astronomy, geography, and more. OSN serves as a key pathway for identifying and nurturing talented students and selecting national teams for various International Science Olympiads. OSN is open to Indonesian secondary school students (SMP/MTs and SMA/MA/SMK). Participants first compete in school, district, and provincial rounds before qualifying for the national stage. Finalists receive intensive training, medals, and recognition, and top performers are often invited to training camps that can lead to representing Indonesia in international competitions. Participating in OSN helps students deepen subject mastery, gain national exposure, and strengthen academic portfolios for university applications and scholarships. In recent years, OSN has been run in a **hybrid format** (online qualification rounds plus in-person national finals), depending on the year’s regulations and conditions set by the Ministry.
