International Mathematical Modeling Challenge

The **International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC)** is a worldwide competition where teams of high school students work over several days to tackle an open-ended, real-world problem using mathematical modeling. Students must formulate assumptions, build and analyze models, interpret results, and write a clear, well-argued report—much like professional applied mathematicians. IMMC is typically organized through **national or regional coordinators** in participating countries, who run national-level contests and select top teams for the international round. It is aimed at secondary school students (roughly grades 9–12), working in small teams with a teacher or coach. Participants gain experience in collaborative problem-solving, technical writing, and applying mathematics beyond textbook exercises, often strengthening their preparation for STEM university studies and careers. The challenge is conducted **remotely**: teams download the problem, work during an allowed window (usually several consecutive days), and submit their report electronically.
