International Observe the Moon Night

International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) is a worldwide public outreach event coordinated by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission and related partners. Each year on a selected date in early northern-hemisphere fall, individuals and groups host events to observe the Moon through telescopes or with the naked eye, share lunar science and exploration updates, and engage in hands-on activities. Events range from local star parties at schools, museums, and observatories to virtual livestreams and backyard observing. While it is not a formal competition, high school students can participate by attending local events, organizing their own school or community observing night, or joining online programs and live broadcasts. Participation is open to all ages worldwide and is free. Students benefit by gaining experience in astronomy, science communication, and event organization, and can connect with amateur astronomers, educators, and researchers who share an interest in space and planetary science.
