International Space Olympics (ISO)

The **International Space Olympics (ISO)** is an annual space science and engineering competition held in Korolyov, near Moscow, Russia—home of Russia’s Mission Control Center. It brings together high school students from multiple countries to compete in space-related disciplines such as physics, mathematics, computer science, and English, and to present individual research projects connected to space or related STEM fields. The event typically includes written exams, project defenses before expert juries, and cultural and educational programs. Participants are generally selected and sent by their schools, regional education departments, or national delegations, often based on strong performance in STEM subjects and English. During the Olympics, students interact with Russian and international peers, visit space-industry facilities (such as RSC Energia and local space museums), and meet scientists and engineers working in the space sector. The ISO is designed to encourage interest in space research and engineering, develop presentation and research skills, and promote international friendship and cultural exchange among future STEM leaders.
