Oregon Battle of the Books (High School)

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide reading motivation and comprehension program in which teams of students read from a curated list of books and compete to answer detailed questions about them. It is organized by the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL) and is open to students in grades 3–12 across Oregon, with separate divisions for different grade bands. High school students participate in the Senior Division (grades 9–12), forming teams (usually through their schools or libraries) to read the annual list of selected titles and prepare for quiz-style battles. Teams first compete at local and regional levels, with top teams advancing to a statewide championship. Participants build strong reading, recall, and teamwork skills, gain exposure to a wide range of literature, and develop confidence in a supportive, competition-style environment.
