Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO)

The **Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO)** is an annual, continent-wide mathematics competition for African secondary school students. Organized by the **African Mathematical Union (AMU)**, it brings together national teams (typically up to four students plus a team leader and deputy) to compete in a rigorous, proof-based exam similar in style and difficulty to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Participants are usually the top performers from each country’s national mathematics competitions and are generally secondary or high school students under a certain age limit (commonly under 20 years old). PAMO offers a platform for African students with strong mathematical talent to challenge themselves, earn medals, and connect with peers and mentors from across the continent. Beyond the contest itself, the event helps identify and nurture future mathematical talent, strengthens national Olympiad programs, and often serves as preparation for the IMO.
