Stanford Institute of Medicine Summer Research

The Stanford Institute of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) is an intensive 8-week research internship for current high school juniors and seniors interested in biomedical and health sciences. Hosted by the Stanford University School of Medicine, the program places students into research laboratories where they work under the mentorship of Stanford faculty, postdocs, and graduate students on real-world projects in areas such as cancer biology, neuroscience, immunology, bioengineering, and more. SIMR is designed for students who have a strong interest in pursuing science or medicine, and it is especially committed to increasing diversity in biomedical research by encouraging applications from students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds. Participants conduct hands-on experiments, attend seminars and career talks, and present their work in a final research symposium. The program is full-time, in person, and provides a stipend to help offset summer expenses, giving students both professional experience and exposure to academic research environments.
