Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition

The Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition is a prestigious annual concerto competition hosted by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in partnership with The Cleveland Orchestra. It alternates each year between violin and piano, drawing exceptional young musicians from around the world. Competitors perform in multiple live rounds held on the Oberlin College campus, with finalists appearing with The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center. The competition is open to highly advanced pre-college musicians (typically ages 13–18) who meet the instrument and age requirements for that year’s edition. Participants gain valuable performance experience, exposure to leading teachers and performers, and the chance to compete for significant cash prizes and performance opportunities. Beyond the awards, students benefit from performing in world-class venues, networking with peers and professionals, and strengthening their artistic and collegiate applications.
